About Us
Tipu Environmental is an iwi nature-based organisation intent on restoring our native bush and birdlife.
Tipu Environmental is the environmental arm of Te Paiaka Lands Trust, the whenua-based trust of Ngāti Tuara Ngāti Kearoa, a hapū of Te Arawa who have lived at Horohoro south of Rotorua for centuries.
As part of the Kaimai Mamaku Restoration Project, Tipu Environmental is focussed on restoring a flourishing native bush environment for birds and wildlife to thrive, by undertaking large-scale pest management projects and riparian planting projects on our lands and for local farms and other organisations.
Te Paiaka Lands Trust
Te Paiaka Lands Trust oversees Tipu Environmental along with the Horohoro Native Tree Nursery at Apirana Rd, Horohoro.
Te Paiaka manages whenua of our hapū at Tihi-o-Tonga on the outskirts of Rotorua to Horohoro maunga – land that belongs to the descendants of Paiaka.
The Trust manages a total of 905 ha and effectively farms 482 ha, maintaining a sustainable mix of livestock, native ecosystems and forestry.
